"The Long Ride Home"

This P-51D, flown by Lt. Col. Wayne Blickenstaff of the 350th Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group, is shown in late 1944 escorting a group of
B-17's home as the sun sets. It has been a long day and a long mission. The men are tired, and some on board the B-17's may be wounded, but soon the planes will be able to separate and return to base for debriefing and rest following The Long Ride Home.
